Why did the "Bay of Pigs" invasion of cuba fail?

It failed because we assumed the Cuban people would support our invasion against Fidel Castro, just like we assumed the Iraqi people would welcome our troops with open arms. We Americans often live in a dream world of democracy for everybody, but sometimes it just doesn't work.
